Bangkok 2011 - Lumphini Park

New York has its Central Park, and Bangkok has its Lumphini Park. If you ever get tired of the hustle and bustle in Bangkok, then Lumphini Park is just the place for you. It is Bangkok's largest park - with a total land area of around 142 acres. The park was created by King Rama VI on royal property, and his imposing statue still stands at the main entrance at the corner of Rama IV Road and Ratchadamri Road. Being one of the rare public open spaces in Bangkok, and located right in the centre of the business district, this park is very popular with the locals. It gets quite busy in the mornings and evenings with the young and old like.

As our hotel Luxx XL was on Lang Suan Road, Lumphini Park was right around the corner. Being able to visit the park every morning became the unexpected perk of staying there.

Lumphini Park also has a Thai Boxing Stadium and if you want to catch a glimpse of Muay Thai Boxing this is the place to go. There is also a public library, a palm garden and various centres for the local community. All in all this is a facility which any city would love to have.
