Penang 2011 - Heritage City

In 2008, Penang and Melaka were jointly listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The listing is long overdue. With their colourful history and rich inventory of historical buildings and sites, they have long been recognized - albeit unofficially, as two of the most important historical cities in Malaysia - if not South-East Asia.

I’ve been to Penang a few times before, and have always enjoyed the place, people and of course the food. It is truly one of the great destinations in Malaysia. Penang people has a certain swagger that comes I think from their confidence in having grown up in a place that is lively, interesting and wildly successful. This is reflected in the quality of their food, design and architecture - in fact Penang has produced quite a few of the leading architects in Malaysia and even Singapore.

Here is a preview of our recent trip to Penang during the 2011 Christmas Break.

Views of the old town area.

Old streets of Georgetown.

Beautiful original details in the old buildings.

More to come.
